ARTISTIC DIRECTORS

Maria Gobetti

mariaMaria Gobetti and Tom Ormeny co-founded and built the Victory Theatre Center in 1979. Maria directed the theatre’s first production - and the world premiere - of Beth Henley’s critically acclaimed The Miss Firecracker Contest. More recently, Maria directed the critic’s choice world premieres of Jon Klein’s Suggestibility and Wishing Well. An Evening with the Egos had its world premiere at the VTC and then moved to an equity production in Chicago - with Maria directing both productions. She also directed and produced the critic’s choice production of David Mamet’s Oleanna (starring Tom Ormeny); the world premieres of American Iliad by Donald Freed, Lee Murphy’s Monkey Grass, and Freed’s The General & The Archbishop. Her latest critically acclaimed productions include directing the play Kimberly Akimbo and co-starring in Taking Care with Tim Sullens. Maria is the Director of the Gobetti-Ormeny Acting Studio, coaches at various major studios, and teaches at the New York Film Academy. She is a member of the Directors’ Guild of America as well as Women In Film, and Maria was the 1992 recipient of Women in Theatre’s Outstanding Achievement In Theatre Award.


Tom Ormeny

Tom was born into a theatrical family in Hungary and continues the legacy as Artistic Co-Director of the Victory Theatre Center. He was instrumental in forming the Los Angeles Municipal Promotions (LAMP) and is President Emeritus of the Board of Governors of Theatre LA. Tom is also the proud recipient of Theatre L.A.’s James A. Doolittle Award for Leadership in Theatre. As a director, Tom received several Drama-Logue awards for the Victory’s production of The Mound Builders and he recently directed a world premiere production for The National Theatre of Hungary. Tom’s other directing credits include the award winning Olympic Arts Festival production of Back to Back and the Victory’s original production of Venus in Orange. He has numerous producer credits including the Drama Critics Circle award-winning On the Money and he wrote and produced the world premiere of Life on the Line. Tom recently appeared in the critically acclaimed Broken Glass at the Victory as well as a guest starring role in Grey’s Anatomy. Tom teaches acting at the Gobetti-Ormeny Acting Studio, Cypress College and the New York Film Academy and is a member of the Directors Guild of America.

ASSOCIATE ARTISTIC DIRECTORS

Carri Sullens

carriCarri Sullens is an Associate Artistic Director at The Victory Theatre Center and directed last season’s critically acclaimed Orange Flower Water. In 1991, she and her husband Tim Sullens co-founded Tight & Shiny Productions in Chicago. Their numerous productions included Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, All Men are Whores and The Madness of Lady Bright. Since moving to LA in 1999, Carri has directed two original 10-minute plays for Stevedore Productions and this season’s outstanding production of Taking Care co-starring Maria Gobetti and Tim Sullens. Carri won critical acclaim as a stage actress in Chicago, most notably for her work in The Woods and Fool for Love. She holds a BFA in theater from Webster University Conservatory of Theatre and Dance.


Tim Sullens

timTim serves as Associate Artistic Director and was last seen in the Victory Theatre Center’s critically acclaimed Taking Care with Maria Gobetti. In Chicago, he cofounded Tight & Shiny Productions with his wife Carri, where they mounted more than 17 theatrical productions. Last season Tim appeared in the ensemble cast of Craig Wright’s critically acclaimed Orange Flower Water. Tim is a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University where he received a BFA in Theater Performance. Since moving to Los Angeles, Tim and Carri have produced two daughters, Eleanor and Harper.
